Hello JEA,
It’s election time! JEA is announcing the open nomination period for JEA Executive Board seats. Nominations for the vacancies listed below can be submitted by emailing Ben Kriegmont (jeapresident@gmail.com) – Nominations accepted through Friday, March 16th.

Why should you run? JEA is a volunteer organization, and without our members’ involvement we’d be unable to function. While Executive Board seats do carry a modest stipend, the main reason to run is to be in a position to affect positive change in your workplace, your career, and the education system in Juneau. Please consider becoming more involved in your JEA.

Hello JEA,

Things are getting busier and busier…I’ll be sending out these President’s Notes every few days, or daily, as issues and news warrants. Please take the time to read them…print them and share with friends who may not check email as frequently, and generally, just help disseminate this information. Express your thoughts and concerns on the most current JSD budget.
Concerned about funding from the state-level? There will also be a box for collecting letters to legislators, the governor, and our Dept. of Ed Commissioner.

Support YOUR Bargaining Team

Our bargaining team met all day this past Saturday (Jan. 7th) to prepare for negotiations – Thanks to Barb Kreher and Riverbend staff for providing lunch, snacks and coffee!

The team is meeting again at 5:00pm, this Wednesday (Jan. 11th), at the NEA office (downtown) before they meet with the district. They have really appreciated the food and snacks. Is anyone willing to provide dinner for them this coming Wednesday? Please email Allie Smith at: allison_smith@jsd.k12.ak.us.

Future meeting times are also on the calendar — Can you help with snacks or meals? Check these dates/times and contact Allie Smith to volunteer:

Thursday, Jan. 19th, 1pm (meet with the district)
Friday, Jan. 20th, 8am (meet with the district)

–October is Open Enrollment Month for the Sick Leave Bank. If you are a NEW member, have NOT ENROLLED previously, or are RETURNING after a leave of absence, fill out the form and send to our Health Chair, Andrea Stasyszen, before the end of the month to enroll.

We need YOU for Delegates’ Assembly!

JEA is accepting nominations for the NEA-AK Delegate’s Assembly. This is the annual state-wide meeting of locals from around the state, who meet to formulate NEA-AK’s resolutions and business items for the year. The Delegates (i.e. YOU?) review and make changes to NEA-AK’s by-laws and set the legislative agenda for union. It is a fun, busy, invigorating weekend of work. The DA takes place in Anchorage over the weekend of Jan. 26-28. More information can be found on the NEA-AK website.

JEA is currently seeking nominations to fill 8 two-year assignments to DA, as well as seeking 2 alternates. If you are interested, please email Ben Kriegmont no later than 4:00 pm, THIS THURSDAY, Oct. 20th.
