Food for thought from a teacher/parent:
You, as parents, set the tone of this upcoming year. When your district announces the plans, read them in private; discuss with your spouse/partner alone or away from your children. Then, when you gather your children, tell them as cheerfully as possible how the fall will go. Buy or make a mask that they pick out and tell them how proud you are that they want to keep others safe. Tell them to simply try their best. They are watching your reaction and will respond accordingly. It is fine if you feel disappointment, anger, sad, or worried; but please, remember that your tone will guide your child’s attitude toward the upcoming year, and you want the year to begin as smoothly as possible. Together, we can weather this tumultuous time and give our children the best chance at a successful and positive year. 🍏
